FTC Issues Broad Recommendations to Improve Mobile Privacy

Pushing guidelines focused on “clear disclosures” to consumers

The US Federal Trade Commission issued sweeping new recommendations calling for major industry players (wireless carriers, OEMs, app developers, ad networks, etc.) to focus on ensuring that consumers get “timely, easy-to-understand disclosures about what data they collect and how the data is used”… especially since “…mobile devices are typically personal to an individual, almost always on, and with the user.  This can facilitate unprecedented amounts of data collection,” stated the FTC in a press release dated February 1, 2013.
