Crowdsourcing a product through Quirky
On 06, Nov 2010 | In Business Models | By Marcia K
Hubbie and I recently downsized to a condo in San Francisco which involved getting rid of more than half of our possessions. Our laundry facility is now tucked away nicely in a closet. One of the issues this brings up is what to do when you need an extra laundry hamper – say to carry clean laundry back to the bedrooms to get folded and put away. So I was thrilled to see this folding laundry basket from Quirky: I pre-ordered it and the way things work on Quirky is if the product gets enough pre-orders it goes into production. A great example of open marketing in action!
Outlook for Mac 2011 Calendar Sync
On 06, Nov 2010 | In Off Topic | By Marcia K
Want to sync Outlook for Mac 2011′s Calendar with iCal? With your Google Calendar? With iCal? Sorry no such capability exists yet. Here’s what Microsoft has to say about this: http://blog.officeformac.com/the-download-on-sync-services-in-office-for-mac-2011/ I checked with two of the services that handle sync to Google calendar – Busy Sync and Spanning Sync and likewise they have yet to announce any capabilities here. Ditto for Missing Sync, a third party application. Be aware, that if you buy Office Mac for 2011 that you’ll be stuck manually updating your calendar – at least for now – unless you work in an Exchange environment.

Big changes afoot
On 23, Feb 2010 | In Off Topic | By Marcia K
Big change #1 is actually an old change – I’m happily ensconced as the VP of Marketing at Recurve, a clean tech start up based in San Francisco. Been here since August 2009 and having a blast. We were just named the #3 most innovative company in the energy sector by Fast Company. Very gratifying, especially considering our competition. But the really big news is that after 17 years of living in the same house in San Mateo, my husband and I have decided to move ourselves, our two cats, and our daughter (who lives with us when she’s not at college) to San Francisco. So our house is on the market in San Mateo. …
